Indigenous people from the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) residing in Japan held a protest march in Tokyo on October 2, 2024, under the banner of the “Japan Diaspora Chittagong Hill Tracts Adivasi Forum.” The march began at Shibuya Jingūmae Park and ended at the United Nations University (UNU), calling attention to the ongoing attacks on Indigenous communities in the CHT by the military and settlers in Bangladesh.
Protesters marched with urgent slogans like “Stop Killing Indigenous in CHT” and “We Want Justice.” At the UNU, several speakers delivered powerful speeches condemning the violence and oppression faced by Indigenous people and other minorities under the current government. They stressed the need for immediate action to stop the attacks and demanded justice for the victims of these atrocities.
They handed over a memorandum to the United Nations and urged international intervention to resolve the crisis in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Later, another gathering was held in front of the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, where protestors reiterated their demands for justice and an end to the violence.
