To Our Revolutionary Chakma Facebookers

Chakma women facing complains

Recently, a group known as the Revolutionary Chakma Facebookers has taken control of Facebook discussions. Chakmas around the world will likely be pleased to hear this, as the people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts have long needed a revolution for their rights.

However, this revolution is not what they expected. It is not a call for the recognition of our existence and demands from the Bangladesh government. Instead, it focuses on a peculiar issue: a woman acting as a bridge between Chinese men and Chakma women.

According to their complaints, Chinese men select their wives from the Chakma community, take them back to China, and then divorce them after a few years. As a result, these Chakma women return home, often in difficult circumstances.

The Chakma Facebook revolutionaries aim to put an end to this practice. Their intentions might be well-meaning, but do they truly understand why these women take such life risks?

What alternatives do these women have?

I prefer not to dwell on this too much. It happens. I neither support nor condemn it. But it’s not fair to say that everyone is doing the same thing or that they are all wrong.

Historically, nations have not vanished because their women married men from other countries. Rather, nations fall when divided, when internal conflicts arise, and when men betray their country.

Recently, we witnessed people surrendering their arms to the Border Guards, with children collecting guns for submission. They were heard saying, “We came here after consulting with the military.”

Wow! Wow!

My question is, why do these Facebook revolutionaries raise their voices against vulnerable people? Why not speak out against the politicians or groups who are truly destroying our nation?

Why not post about this on your Facebook?

Frankly, I do not care much about Facebook. In other countries, no one cares what Facebook users say.

However, for a nation like the Chakma, especially in the CHT, if someone writes a few lines about vulnerable people and gets shares, they think they are great revolutionaries.

It is ridiculous.

When will you wake up?
